Transitioning Into The Cambridge Portfolio Project
Welcome Cambridgeee!! This is my blog, and from this moment forward, all posted blogs will be on developing my Cambridge Portfolio Project and on everything leading towards it. Using my knowledge and techniques learnt throughout this course I am hoping to create an incredible final project and are willing to take all the necessary challenges to accomplish that exactly.
Being taught the idea on film openings and the different approaches towards them when developing a film as a whole has brought me to this point on analyzing different approaches With this being said, I have firstly chosen to consider on character development. Although this might seem as a very simple and what would seem like a basic approach, I feel as if its a way to introduce the character with aspects such as costume design, dialogue, ect. which then creates the character as a whole and its part in the story line.
Another approach that stood out to me was establishing tone. I think the tone of the movie is a key element to the understanding of the film. The way the lightning cinematography and sound are used to establish the tone are elements I didn’t notice till taking this class. When starting a new film, I can immediately tell the tone of the movie, for example, The Silence of the Lambs started with dark lighting and fog. This illustrated that the film had a dark gloomy tone, and I could sense something alarming was going to happen. Establishing tone creates the atmosphere and draws the viewer into the action of the movie.
The approach of types of conflict also spoke to me, more specifically character vs. Self. I noticed that it forms a deeper connection with the character as you see them fight and grow from their internal conflict. This approach drives the entire story. It also makes the audience want to stay and watch the film to see the character solve their conflict.
